If your boiler isn’t working properly it can feel like an emergency to you, even though it might not technically be classed as one. Regardless of what is wrong with your boiler, you will probably want it fixed quickly, but how do you know whether to call out an emergency boiler repair or to whether to wait a couple of days for an available appointment?
Emergency Boiler Issues
An emergency call out is warranted when there is a health and safety issues at risk, this includes:
- Having no hot water or heating, particularly if it is winter or if you have young children.
- If your carbon monoxide monitor has alerted you to a problem.
- If you can smell gas.
If you experience any of these issues then it is justified to call an engineer for an emergency boiler repair.
Who Should You Call?
If you do have a boiler or plumbing emergency then you will likely be stressed and will probably want it fixed as soon as possible. However, you should still do your research. Don’t panic and call the first number you can find. Check that the engineer is Gas Safe registered, otherwise you could end up with an even more dangerous emergency on your hands.
Boiler Issues That Aren’t an Emergency
A range of issues can occur that will need to be looked at by an experienced engineer, but may not involve emergency boiler repair. These issues include:
- The water is hot even though you have no heating.
- Having heating but no hot water.
- A leak or dripping boiler.
- Odd whirring or banging noises coming from the boiler.
- The boiler is not igniting, or switching off too soon.
If you notice any of these issues we still recommend that you call a Gas Safe engineer as soon as possible. Even though they are not classed as emergencies they should still be resolved as soon as possible, before the issue becomes worse and ends up causing a full blown boiler break down.
