Boiler servicing is something that is often overlooked. Many people forget it, perhaps because they are too busy or perhaps because they don’t realise how important it is. However, there are numerous reasons you should get your boiler serviced, below are some of them.

- Catch boiler problems early: Although you may forget about your boiler in summer, as you aren’t using the heating, it is still running to heat your water, so no matter what time of year it is, your boiler can still run into problems. Having a boiler service annually means your engineer can identify any problems with your boiler as soon as possible and can address them before they get worse and become a major cost.
- Cheaper than getting a new boiler: servicing a boiler costs much less than you think, at about £60, give or take. It is much cheaper to get an annual boiler service than it is to replace your boiler entirely, because it has broken down and is irreparable.
- Can save money on energy bills: although it costs money to get your boiler serviced it can save you money on energy bills. As part of the boiler service the engineer will carry out checks to ensure your boiler is running efficiently. Obviously, the model of your boiler and how old it is will determine how energy efficient it can be, but your engineer will make sure it is running as efficiently as it can, which will keep your energy bills lower.
- Can keep you safe: Not only does servicing ensure your boiler is running efficiently, but it can also ensure it is running safely. Carbon monoxide poisoning is extremely dangerous and should be taken very seriously. To be safe you should have a carbon monoxide alarm, but regular boiler servicing can also check for faults that could potentially cause a carbon monoxide leak.
- Keep your boiler in warranty: often your boiler warranty will only be valid if you have it serviced on an annual basis. If you haven’t had it serviced for more than 12 months your warranty might be voided, and the boiler brand won’t repair it if it breaks down.
We would recommend getting your boiler serviced every 12 months. If you can remember to book it in summer this can be preferable. Getting the service done in summer means any problems can be fixed quickly and before winter sets in and you need to use it more. It also may mean you don’t need to wait as long for any repairs, as demand is likely to be lower in the warmer months.
